THANK YOU!!!

On behalf of the Junction Farm Fest’s coordinating team….

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all the sponsors, supporters, volunteers, farmers, organizations and the overwhelmingly supportive Junction community who helped make the 1st Annual Junction Farm FEST such a successful and fun-filled event!

And a very special thank you to Lawrence Andres from Harmony Organic who, in a conversation with Jeff Brown from Delight, came up with the fantastic idea for a “farm in the city” event.

The aim of Farm Fest was to strengthen ties between the urban neighbourhood and the local farms that help to feed it, and to educate children about their food sources.

Cathy from Cathy's Crawly Composters teaching kids about worms.

There were 15 activity stations and over 500 people in attendance. We had a steady flow of visitors throughout the day, despite the heat. Kids (and adults) were engaged in all sorts of activities, including composting with worms, painting their favourite vegetables, making butter, tasting local honey, sampling organic chocolate milk, and meeting the goats, sheep, chickens and bees.

Toronto City Councillor Sarah Doucette and Toronto Police Service Chief Bill Blair were in attendance and actively engaged in some of the activities as well.

The marching band Rambunctious livened things up in the afternoon at both locations.

Rambunctious!

We received a lot of great feedback, most of which was overwhelmingly positive.

Thank you for supporting local, sustainable, and ethical farming and for being instrumental in the success of our educational event.

Best rest of summer to you all and hope to see you next year!

A call for VOLUNTEERS!

The 1st Annual Junction Farm Fest will be held on Saturday July 23 from 11am to 5pm.

The event will be held at two locations.

Toronto Police Service, 11 Division (209 Mavety St.): sustainably raised farm animals including a cow/calf, sheep, lambs, goats and chickens.

Junction Train Platform (2954 Dundas St. W): Hands on activities including pollination, beekeeping sponsored by Food Share, urban gardening sponsored by the Stop, vermiculture and more!

The main sponsors are Local Food Plus, an organization committed to building a sustainable food system, Junction Fromagerie, Delight Chocolate, the Beet, the Sweet Potato and the Junction Residents Association.

We are looking for VOLUNTEERS to help distribute posters to local businesses to help promote this event.

We are also in need of 20 to 24 volunteers to help on the day of the event.

Each volunteer would need to commit to approximately three hours on the day of the event at one of the twelve stations.

No special skills required.

Easy and enjoyable!

Interested parties should respond to lwclements@gmail.com.

Thank you!
